Atole – Mexican Hot Chocolate!
So this one is a little random…..
I’m not a fan of hot drinks – I don’t like tea or coffee for starters and can just about handle a starbucks once in a while. So I found this recipe online for Atole, basically a Mexican version of hot chocolate “with a little kick”.
You’ll need a blender, some grated dark chocolate (test to make sure that it’s chocolate and don’t grate your finger), milk, spices and “cornmeal” – I went for cornflour, unfortunately not the best choice as it’s a little different to ‘meal and turned the drink into a paste.
All I did was put the milk in a blender with the cornflour (lush), pour this into a pan with the cinnamon and cloves and it will start to thicken as you boil. Then pour in the chocolate and stir it in as it simmers. Once all the chocolate has melted in, stir for approximately 8 minutes and then pour into your mug!
Although it tasted like fire it was an interesting experience - maybe I should just go for coffee next time!
See you again!
